The seller can ask $250k, doesn't mean he'll find a buyer for it. The Hammer's that have sold in the last couple of years were all in the $40-60k range. Due to currency exchange rates with other foreign currencies... prices can be up to $80k but I don't see that as an accurate "value" just yet. Perhaps in the future... but who knows.

Interesting bit on the "mechanic in GA" remark.

I don't see the Hammer breaking the $40k mark anytime soon unless there's something totally unique about it. I've seen ads were Hammer's in Japan that were in much better cosmetic shape and 100% original not sell for $60k.

Seller wants $65K, but his last ebay auction hit $20K...by anyone's standards that's still very far apart. It got a lot of attention for the first listing, and so one would assume most buyers showed their cards.

Either he keeps reducing his expectations, he holds onto the car, or takes it to a real auction...

The Hammer sold thru 1988, then M117 32V designer Hartmut Fehyl travels over to Florida to set up RENNtech in 1990 and creates the sequel, the M119-engined 600E. This time, a 2.82 LSD, over the 2.24 used in the 186mph Hammer, limiting top speed to 155mph.

It has come to my understanding that the 6.0L M119's are VERY conservative when it comes to cams, even the AMG M119 tuning was tame in comparison to the M117 6.0L's even though the M119 enjoys a higher 10:1 CR versus 9.8:1 for the M117.

The Renntech developed M119 examples are more suitable "drivers"

FWIW, in 1986 the W124 300E 5.6 AMG attained 303kph or 188mph.

Another fine example sold in early 2011, asking $45K.

Hello All,

As some of you know, I have been thinking about selling my AMG Hammer for a while now, not due to financial reasons or anything, just different priorities in my life over the past couple years and most recently, married in October '10, but that's not to say that I don't like cars anymore.

Last November (2009), I sold my 500E to a board member, but as you know with my posts my attention to detail is very high, and I hope that you enjoyed reading the posts. With the Hammer, I have kept pretty low on the radar as it is an extremely rare car, only 1 in 13 cars ever produced by AMG worldwide. That is not to say that there are not other "Hammers" out there that have been converted by enthusiasts and speed-shops. My Hammer in particular has appeared in dozens of car enthusiast magazines originating from Germany, UK, USA, and other countries. This particular car was built by AMG in Germany. The car's VIN starts WDB124020 - the 020 signifies that it started life a 200 (not even a 200E) from 12/85, then proceeded through AMG's modifications to bring it to a 185 mph+ super sedan in less than a year. After being written about in Germany, it was brought to the USA by AMG of North America and it appeared in many magazines such as Car and Driver and Road and Track just to name a few. The car came to my family in Spring of 2002, and as you know I like to focus on engine, drive train, suspension and brakes
first =). I have a stack of records about 3" thick of just things that I have done. The list of repairs/refreshed items goes on and on, but Ill try to write that up.

I am asking $45,000.00 USD. I am not looking for lowball offers or dreamers, and I would prefer selling the car within the US, but I am willing to work with very motivated international buyers that can coordinate shipping. I am wearing my flame suit, so if you want to flame me go ahead, but just know, I have the Hammer. ;-) The 500E offers a very refined torque curve, but the hammer is very violent and untamed and it is very fun to drive and always will put a smile on your face. If interested, Please email me at my screen name here @ gmail dot com Id prefer that over PMs. The car is currently located in Arizona.

I'm working on a powerpoint with a full write up, but I need to scale it down, it's at 20 MB. Attached are a few pictures.
Current Configuration:
Stainless steel AMG underbody (reduces coefficient of drag) with AMG black underbody coating, with AMG body kit (front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper, and trunk spoiler).
400E 4- pot front brakes, 500E rear brakes (upgraded large dust shields to accomadate any of the w124 vented brakes)
300E limo front sway bar, 500E rear sway bar, with stiffer bushings
AMG modified rear subframe to handle S-Class w126 differential, with additional structure built by me. Installed 2.82:1, LSD dif, Torsen-Locking differntial not available.
AMG lowering springs (white)
235/45/17 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires, on recently refurbished period correct AMG wheels (without slashes), and full size spare
AMG illuminated door sills
RECARO AMG racing seats
AMG steering wheel (non airbag)
300E Bosch OE euro headlights with vacuum adjust
etc...

I of course kept all the parts removed.

Below are the Factory AMG specifications:
385 Horsepower (DIN), 286 kW @ 5500 rpm

420 Ft-Lb Torque, 566 Nm torque @ 4000 rpm

For reference, here are two examples that sold a couple of years back. Both low mileage examples owned by a California collector:

What's the reserve? Current asking $135k down from his original asking of $255K.

Stumbled on this:

Proof is in the pudding...

Though, looks like its had some work done to remove the surface rust previously indicated in earlier photos. A drill with a wire bit does wonders!

Note the rusty screws for the lower skirt in the new open door photos on the ebay auction.

Which photo are you referencing in the auction? The rust in this pict appears to be the rack:
Lol, my bad - yeh that rack's real rusty, how dare he put it on a rusty rack!
